I'm half way through my first microbiology course, a nursing prereq at my community college. This text is well-written with very helpful, easy-to-read illustrations and graphs. The depth of detail on the biochemistry is much more than we really need to know so it can be easy to lose your way reading the chapter, trying not to get confused by all the technical bits we don't need (forest for the trees). However, I really need to say how much I love, love, love the Mastering Microbiology access.I've been using the online textbook access in class rather than dragging the huge paper version around. That's been helpful but isn't of course absolutely necessary. However, in studying for last week's midterm I used all the online animations and quizzes and thought they were wonderful. I understand things about electron transport chain better now than I have ever before and will never forget them because I have this beautiful movie to play in my head. That alone probably helped me get three tricky questions right on my exam. I ended up acing the midterm and had the highest score. I think I'm the only one in my course using Mastering Microbiology. I'm a believer.The version of the text sold at my CC's bookstore doesn't include the online access. I was totally psyched when I realized that by ordering through Amazon I not only paid $30 less but I got the Mastering Microbiology too. Score!

Was under the impression that the book was new as the description stated that "Condition: New - Brand new but has some obvious storage wear on cover. Pages clean CD and code both unopened /unscratched amazing condition". Disappointing because I really wanted to find a book without markings or highlights flipped through the book and there is minimal highlights and some bent pages. Still serves the purpose I need it to though.

The book itself is written in a very basic way, not the most helpful for college classes. The mastering microbiology that comes with it though is beyond worth it and is worth 5 stars on its own. It has an animation clearly explaining every single concept you can imagine with quizzes and study tools.Also a little word to teh wise,if you're a college student looking for a cheap book and there's a mastering included in it, just get the matsering, it includes a free digital copy of the book (another reason mastering is so fantastic)

While the book itself was fine, the title of "E-text including access code" was misleading. It did not come with the access code as stated in the title. When we called Amazon the customer service rep found in very small print not accessible to the purchaser that in fact it DID NOT come with a code.

I had to get this book for my microbiology class in college, and I have to say I found it super helpful. It explained everything really well, has great pictures for the visual learners and it has lots of links to real health and diseases. The website portion of it is incredibly interactive and super helpful too. I've seen the micro books of my peers who took it other places, and I have to say I feel mine teaches the material best without confusing the living daylights out of you.Definitely would get again if I had to take this class again.

Just the type of book I was looking to find. It has a fluent layout of topics. It even has pronunciations which makes it a SIX star to me.I purchased the paperback version because I wasn't sure if I would like it enough to invest in the hardback (Indeed hardback worthy!).FYI the paper is not the strongest, cover included. If you're a student and don't plan to use the book for long, buy paperback.

Nothing wrong with the contents of the book. I'm sure it's a fine textbook and will suit my needs. My only concern is that I am renting the book from Amazon and when I received it it was not in great condition. I took pictures so hopefully I won't be charged when I have to return it.

This book is great! As with any book you need to put in the time to read to see results. The online ebook, brings the book whereever you have an internet connection. Doesn't not work on ipad or ipods because they don't support the shockwave/java used for animations. So, if your looking for a tablet and want to have it supported to see your ebook pick another tablet. You can listen to the mp3 tutorials on ipod or ipad though. The reason I purchased the loose leaf is to lessen the bulky book. I just bring the chapters we are currently on in class. I need to remember to bring the appendix in the back as well but have not. Its a great way to read on the bus or train with minimum amount of tote plus this version of the book is cheaper. I must say the online study area is great and the online quizzes really do help to point out what to focus on more of. My grade was a D. I now have a B average. True I was not reading as much as I should have before but now I am. This online format makes it easy to do plus the loose leaf gives it that extra portability in case wifi is not accessible but won't interrupt my studying.

Best case book, by far, that I had in law school.Instead of wasting time with stupid minutiae of mostly overturned English cases, this book focuses on the rules of Evidence, and how they apply. No-nonsense, this book will teach you evidence. It's so good, I would recommend it even if your class uses a different book.I can't think of any other casebook that I would recommend even if you didn't have to buy it.It's that good.

I am still amazed how well thought out and easy to read this book is compared to all the other law school books. This book definitely bucks the long-standing tradition in law school textbooks. It isn't a casebook - thank god; yet it has plenty of short case summaries, which are used to illustrate various rules of evidence. They are easy to remember, and if give you enough to understand the application of the rule without the usual overload of case-specific detail (if you wanted to know more about a case, no problem, we all have westlaw or lexis).The only criticism I have heard is that the book occasionally errs on the side of devoting a few too many paragraphs to explanation. That's fine with me. It is a lot easier to skip a paragraph in this book than the usual non-explanation or multitude of footnotes in the typical case book.Probably a lot of the reasons for this book being so great is because this style of book is well-suited to this particular subject, which requires an examination of rules in isolation and then piecing them together separately. However, I wonder why textbooks for other subjects could not have been approached this way.

I could go on, but this "casebook" has beat any other "traditional" law school text by miles. The case summaries are memorable and illustrate the topic at hand well. The authors do a wonderful job leading you through the rules. The only suggested changes would be to delete a few superfluous paragraphs and to perhaps use different symbols for diagrams. Other than that I hope this text starts a REVOLUTION in the way law school classes have been traditionally taught. I plan on writing the authors a nice letter if I have a chance--I really feel that strongly about the thoughtful structure put in place. Law professors: please take note.

This book is supposed to be a casebook but it is more like a supplement because it is remarkably clear. My professor used a different casebook but I purchased this one because a friend of mine in a different evidence class showed it to me. I am still amazed how well this book is organized and how quickly I understood evidence once I switched books. Every chapter starts with an overview/intro then goes into explaining the rule in detail. Then the rule is broken down into components and each component is given real case examples with brief facts and analysis. This is where the book shines. Breaking down the rule into component parts is what you will have to do for an exam. Certain parts of the rule are more difficult than others to resolve and you will quickly learn what to focus on.Also, throughout the chapter there are notations to show where the law is settled and where it is in flux. This is great to know because these topics are typically tested on evidence exams. Their is a Federal Rule index and general index, both are fantastic and make it very easy to find what you are looking for. The chapters themselves are very logically designed so there is not a lot of overlap within each chapter. This allows you to focus on one thing at a time, unlike other casebooks.I am only in my second year of law school but I have read a lot of casebooks and supplements out of curiosity. This book is far superior to anything I have seen. It is clear, to the point and pleasant to read for an evidence book. It is a great feeling to have this book with you because evidence seems to be one of the most difficult law school classes. I don't usually write reviews but this book made me feel obligated to get on Amazon and write reviews for all of my books. It is by far the best law school book I have read.As a side note another book that was helpful at the end of the semester was Lexis' Q&A. It gives a lot of multiple choice questions. Half of my exam was multiple choice and the Q&A gives you an idea of all the tricky ways a professor may try to fool you.

This book looked very intimidating when I first got it and very bland from the basic cover. However, it is very easy to read, large text, interesting subject, and it is written in a way that keeps your attention yet is easy to understand. Evidence in general is a very complex part of law. However, I recommend this book over and over again to my fellow law students to not only make their lives easier, but to help them actually understand the laws.

Very clearly written. This author has a skill at explaining things. I have gone through many books to learn the rule of federal evidence. This will definitely be the last one I need to buy.

I love the examples provided in each chapter that offer real cases and fictitious hypothotheticals to further explain the nuances of each rule. The pace of each chapter allows you to really understand the rule before moving on to another chapter, which is very important when trying to understand how all the rules fit together. More importantly, this book has an online supplement, which includes video explanations, practice multiple-choice questions and self assessments, and allows you to email the authors if you have questions. This book is wonderful.
